Maha Shivratri Comes once in a year, just before the coming of Spring. Shivratri is on February 13.
Shivratri means "night of Shiva", the Hindu God, who is referr as "the destroyer of evil." This day is not to celebrate and merry-making is to worship of Lord Shiva, introspect and become meditative. Maha Shivratri or the " night of Shiva" comes once in a year, just before the coming of Spring season in the month of Feb or March. date keeps change every year as it is related to the lunar calendar. This year, Shivratri will be celebrated on February 13, Tuesday.
How to Celebrate Mahashivratri ?
There are some understanding in this the festival. Some head to Shiva temples or go for pilgrimage to Jyotirlingams, some celebrate it by chanting of shiva mantra "Om Namah Shivaya", praying to Lord Shiva, practicing yoga, meditation. The some peoplekeep awake all night, also called "jaagaran".
